What makes you happy?

What makes me happy?

  • Spending quality time with my family
  • Being productive at work
  • Tasting success and seeing growth in my career
  • Meeting people and having meaningful conversations with them
  • Seeing new/interesting things and places - whether it’s the Eiffel tower, or the cherry spoon, or the butterflies emerging from their cocoon
  • Seeing my kids happy makes me happy

Little things make me happy. I suppose little things make me easily unhappy as well. Is your own happiness the only thing that matters though? I'm not sure. It does make me feel guilty when my happiness sometimes results in somebody else being unhappy, but I want to do what I want to do. Win-win is not possible all the time. Is it okay to step on other people’s happiness to attain yours? Are your choices not always supreme? Each one is looking for their best interests. How do you manage the clashes? Who needs to sacrifice their happiness?

What makes Minneapolis a great city to live/work in?

Minneapolis or Minnesota-the names echo winter for most people. Talk about recruiting and most people are cold (pun intended). Yet, Minneapolis is a hub of so many Fortune 500 companies and as somebody said, “It is as difficult to recruit out of Minnesota as it is to recruit into”. Once a Minnesotan always a Minnesotan. I have not lived in any other city of the United States and I don’t want to (I do love visiting other cities).  I come from a New York like city of another country and find it rather pleasurable to be in an easy-paced place like Minneapolis. I like the fact that people here have the time to hold doors for each other, we are not bumping into each other (well, except at the State Fair!) and we have time to listen. I like the Minnesotahh nice people. I like the family-oriented culture and actually I enjoy the cold too. Yes, a few months less of winter would be much nicer, but we can live with it. I will never forget the moment when I saw the first snowflakes on my winter jacket and I had the same stars in my eyes. I was so excited. Living through every winter has been an experience and an achievement for me. I’m proud of being here and am gearing up for another winter (yeah, I know it’s just the start of fall elsewhere, ha ha). Actually, that’s one thing I do complain about-a very short spring and a very short fall. And I hate people telling their family and friends in May that now is the best time to come to Minnesota. I love to call my family and tell them it is 30 below (believe me it’s so much fun when they tell me not to go outside). I love telling my mom I survived being outside in 15 below for about 15 minutes waiting for a bus. And we have the luxury of making a snowman right outside our house. You have to try it to know it!

Dedicated to my candidate who told me this morning, “Minnesota is cold, I will not move to Minnesota”.

Is it necessary to have a "vision" of what you want in life?

We are having a hot discussion on whether one should have a Vision and a Vision statement or not. Does it matter that you are a woman? Is a Vision applicable to family as well? What is your opinion? http://ow.ly/2sED5
